Today I had a session with Maisie, a beautiful 1 year old. I always struggle with which images to post as sneak previews....and sometimes there is nothing like a simple black and white portrait. Maisie's eye lashes are to die for!

After a busy week of doing some commercial work, album design, E sessions and lots of other things I was back in the studio today - and have another busy week next week!

This morning I had a session with the lovely Ethan with mummy and daddy. He did really well although he did make us work a little - Ethan did a great trick of smiling, then frowning as soon as the camera was on him! It's definitely not unusual, so mummy set about getting those smiles whilst I waited to catch those lovely moments. Here are a couple of favorites from the session -

So back to the studio and what a lovely way to start my week. My session today was with Joshua, and he was a little angel! Josh has beautiful dark eyes and is super cute. He didn't even mind us trying to recreate some of my newborn shots, and loved every minute of having his picture taken.

Introducing Aman, a gorgeous baby boy and another new addition to the very popular Beginnings scheme. Aman was such a chilled baby, gurgling and chatting and poking his little tongue out at every possible occasion! I love the cheeky tummy shot, it really makes my smile.

Today I had the pleasure of photographing Taran again, and my hasn't she changed. She is a gorgeous little girl, with plenty of hair and a lovely little personality. She was an absolute star and put up with various outfit changes without trouble, and was a joy to photograph.

On another subject Taran's daddy is doing a Kilimanjaro climb in September this year, to support Marie Curie Cancer Care. If you can help and donate please do, it's easy to donate online via the following link  JUST GIVING . The boys have raised over 5k so far, but still have some way to go before achieving their 18k target - any help is welcome! Good luck Gurjit & team, what a great cause.

My 2nd session of the day was also really enjoyable, and it was with a gorgeous little girl called Iris and her big brother Felix. I had to do a fair amount of singing, pulling funny faces and making strange noises, which is are fairly normal activities in the daily life of a children's photographer !

This morning I had a session with these 2 lovely boys. Josh has been through the scheme previously and brought along his baby brother Dylan to have his first go at a bit of modeling. I have had some lovely newborn sessions lately, sneak previews to follow soon. One from this week is the beautiful Megan. Photographing newborns is just great. Each session is so different, and they can last anything form 45 minutes up to 3 hours. There is a lot feeding, soothing, nappy changes, winding, cleaning up any accidents and generally a lot of patience is needed. Many parents ask me for best tips for a successful newborn session - here they are!

1. Bring your baby along as early as possible - days 4-6 are best
2. Bring a vest ( the studio will be hot hot hot)
3. Feed your little one before the session so they arrive sleepy and full
4. Try not to bring siblings and keep people present at shoot to the minimum
5. Come as early in the morning as you can so we have nice light
6. Relax and trust me - I have handled plenty of babies and know exactly what I am doing!

And if you do that, assuming your baba is in the mood we can get some fab images. I aim to get at least 3 to 4 "signature images" from a newborn session. Although you see approximately 40 proofs , there will always those few that really stand out. And remember - props are optional! We can keep it all natural if you prefer. My studio is stocked full of cute hats and blankets, so the choice is yours.

Here are a few images form Megan's session. The first is my current favorite!

Ok just catching up on more sneak previews! On Monday I had 2 lovely studio sessions. A one off session with Lucy , and a 2nd beginnings session with Lili and Lukas. I want to know what is it with all the L's at the moment? I have photographed a Lila, Lola, Lily, Lucia, Lucy, Lili and Lukas in the last week alone! Is this a new trend? I love all those names by the way, but this is kinda spooky....Also, twins! Max & Harry, Lili & Lukas, Oscar and Bella, next week Hannah & Matilda. I really want to know what is everyone having in their tea please! I really enjoy photographing twins, although more challenging, it's very rewarding to get a great capture. I am yet to photograph newborn twins ( like less than 7 days old) and would love to. Anyone know anyone expecting twins? Or triplets - now that would be fun! Anyway, I am being rather talkative here, so without further ado...

Today I had the pleasure of shooting a session for two lovely twin boys, Max & Harry. It was certainly fun trying to get them withing close proximity of each other and looking at the camera at the same time! Still we managed it and got some great shots. Today I met a gorgeous little baby girl. Kiana was just adorable and although initially she cried a little, once she got used to me all was well. Back in the studio today! Have come back to a list of things to do no less than 58 items long and about 200 emails...so please bear with me this week.

This morning I had a lovely session with Edward, mummy, daddy and bump. Edward was a little serious to begin with but soon launched into some great smiles ( especially when I wasn't taking his picture, the cheeky monkey!) . Edwards took a few steps on his own too so no doubt he will be running around really soon. With a new addition to the family due in January I am sure mummy will be kept very busy!  A sneak preview as always...

I had 2 lovely little girls at my studio today, Rebecca & Bethany. I haven't seen Bethany since spring last year when she came for her last beginnings session and she has really grown up. Rebecca is also growing up fast, , and she will definitely be walking soon. These two are adorable together, although getting them to stay next to each other was a bit harder. My second session today was in the studio, this time a 2nd beginnings session. William came along with mummy and daddy for the shoot. He was very mobile on the bum shuffling front and very very chatty and sociable. He really made me chuckle with his "talking" and running away - I have never see anyone bum shuffle so fast! by . This morning I had my final session with Oliver, who has now grown into a handsome little man. We went to Raphael's Park, and although the morning was nippy, it was a lovely day - and great for photos - nice and overcast. Oliver had a good run around, played with sticks and leaves, chased dogs and squirrels, just the usual things boys do!

Today's session was with Finn,  a lovely baby boy almost 4 weeks old. Finn a was a little trouper, and did really well through the session. No crying at all, and providing he got his "snack" breaks he seemed to take it all in his stride. Finn has great eyes, which he kept wide open through at least half of the session which was fantastic. We did manage to tire him out at the end, and he was asleep as as soon as he was in his car seat!

Today I had a lovely session with a 5 day old baby boy. His name is Jude and he is just scrumptious. I haven't shot a newborn session for a little while and I remembered just how much I love those sessions. They seem to come in waves and I suddenly have a few newborns due (not personally but you know what I mean) so I can't wait. Jude was a star , no crying at all , and just really took it all in his stride. Even the Christmas hat wasn't a problem, although he might not thank us for it when he is 18!

My first session this morning was Gabriel and big sister Scarlett. Last time I saw Gabriel he was a newborn, so of course he looked completely different! he has lots of lovely hair and is just so cute - I just love that serious pic. Sophia as most newborns was asleep for most of the shoot, but did have a brief period of being very alert which was great as we could get a nice variety of images. Hugh is a handsome little boy, and was happy as long he was occupied my jumping and various toys - he did rather well well considering and average 2 old's attentions span! here is a little previous - as always newborns get a slightly bigger sneak peek!

thank you, Maria - we all really enjoyed the session with you and these shots are great. It's so nice that you've captured Hugh's smile in the close-up of him. We look forward to seeing all of them.

Well I am back! I had a lovely holiday, although I did do a little bit of work too, and already feel like I haven't been away...have a very busy 10 days ahead of me with 3 weddings, several portrait sessions, proofing, orders etc. + about 150 emails to reply to! I very much appreciate your patience , and if you have emailed whilst I am away you will definitely get  a response in the next 3-4 days at the latest. I will blog some holiday stuff when I get the chance...

My first session upon my return was the gorgeous Maria, a lovely newborn, just 3 weeks old. However, as her due date was today she is still a newborn size, and ever so lovely. Content all the way through the session, it was a great shoot to come back to - I really enjoyed it. Mummy & daddy, I hope you like these - thanks for your patience!

These are incredible, and so beautiful. You've really captured our precious little girl, her personality and little expressions, esp the pink hat shot. I just love it. Thank you so much for these, I can't wait to see the rest! We all had such a good time in the session and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with you.

My second session today was with Nico, another lovely little boy with huge eyes, and wonderful long eyelashes - I wish I had those! Nico brought mummy and also nanny and granddad along. I must say nanny was fantastic at getting those expressions going, and Nico once again was a pleasure to work with. here is another extra large sneak preview!

This morning I saw William again for his 2nd beginnings session. He has really grown up since I last saw him - he is now a proper little boy! One thing that hasn't changed are his gorgeous blue eyes, they really stand out. William is at the stage where he is almost walking unaided, but not quiet there...so although the session was a success I think he was glad to be outta here - with all the grown ups trying to keep him still he got a little frustrated. I must say I did manage to raise a few lovely smiles by pretending I had a cup fall off my head several times...now that's what I call entertainment!

Since my hay fever was really playing up I was glad to go somewhere less grassy for my session this afternoon. This time it was with a  lovely blue eyed boy, Harrison. He was so cute walking around saying "oh - oh", for no reason whatsoever! Like a typical boy, he had his own ideas on where he would like to go so we had fun chasing him and pointing out imaginary airplanes! He did really well and I have some lovely images - here are a few as always...

My first session today was with Sukirat and mummy and daddy. We went over to South Weald Country Park but in the opposite direction to where I would normally go, as I wanted to see if I could find something new. We took some great piccies in the bird hide and found those lovely tall grasses. When I got home, my hay fever was off the scale after rolling around on the floor...but it was worth it. Sukirat was as always, a pleasure. Not only she is mega pretty but also mega smiley, so I had an easy ride!

This morning I had the pleasure of a lovely newborn session with Jamie, a gorgeous baby boy, and just 7 days old. He was good as gold and allowed me to use  a few bits and pieces I have been dying to play with, which was fab. Jamie is Kaylee's little brother - who recently had her session 3. Looks like I will be seeing lots more of this little family in the future!

This afternoons session was with a precious little newborn , Isaac, aged just over 2 weeks. Isaac really surprised me ( in a good way!) that he was quite sleepy and not as active as I expected, which was fantastic. It still meant we were able to get some of those lovely newborn shots, normally only feasible in the first week. As all newborns get a big sneak preview, I better keep to the tradition - mummy and daddy hope you like them!

Today we had a lovely afternoon, bright and sunny. I met Bobby with mummy and daddy in Bedfords park, which is a new location for me. What I loved about it is the long grass, I love shooting through stuff, so was it was great. Bobby was a pleasure as always, and after he overcame his initial shyness he had fun exploring and trying to copy daddy, who seem to enjoy climbing all the trees in the park! I have posted an extra pic from the preview as I do on occasions when I really love a particular image...

This afternoon I had more familiar faces in the studio. Maisie is the new addition to the family, and she came along with her big sister Emily who has already gone through the beginnings scheme, and of course mummy came along too. The girls are lovely, and so different to each other. Maisie is at the stage of putting everything in her mouth so we had fun trying to get some images without a "mouth prop". Emily is great fun and I love this shot - if you are wondering what she is doing , she is actually doing her best Beyonce impression!

My first session this morning was with Georgia, who came along with her big brother, mummy and daddy. Georgia was a little camera shy and we had the serious look on for quite a bit of the session, but we also manged to raise a few smiles. This morning I had a lovely session with Phoebe at what is now becoming one of my favorite haunts - Hylands Park. Phoebe was an absolute star, smiling and happy and running around. Phoebe has been visiting Hylands for  along time - her mummy and daddy took weekly walks there when Phoebe was in her mummy's tummy! I really enjoyed the session and here is a quick sneak preview as always.

This afternoon I had another session at Hylands , this time with Ben, Lewis, their little sister Orla and of course mummy and daddy. In fact mummy saw some images with the green door I posted on my blog a couple of weeks back ( and she loved them), so a family image with that backdrop was a must. The boys were as good as gold although it was a challenge getting them in one image at the same time - they most run in opposite directions! Still, we managed it and I think the one below is really cute.

This morning I saw Lucie, mummy and daddy for her 3rd, and final beginnings session. Lucie is a lovely little girl and enjoyed the park but unfortunately just wasn't in a smiley mood this morning - although she loved mummy and daddy swinging her! We came back in the afternoon after she had a nice big sleep, and things were much better. Hylands park is a gorgeous setting , and also special to Lucie's mummy and daddy as they got married at Hylands House.

After having to call of most of this week's shoots due to some random stomach virus I caught I was back to my normal self today - thankfully!

My session today was with Henry and his new baby brother Freddie. We did it in the studio rather than outdoors as mummy wanted Freddie to be involved and of course at his age we wouldn't have got much outside. The boys are lovely, but it is notoriously difficult to get a decent image of children that age together. I really like this one - Freddie looks really chilled out!

James brought both mummy and daddy along this time which was great as we could get some nice family shots. My session today was at Maggie's home, which was excellent. Maggie & big brother Frankie felt really comfortable running around on their own turf, and they had lots to show me. Today was a first for me - I had never photographed horses and children at the same time! It was a bit of a challenge due to the height difference but I hope I have managed to pull it off. Maggie is a lovely little girl, so completely unfazed by anything - she must have fallen over a dozen times, only to pick herself up and carry on as normal. Frankie is a proper boy - running everywhere, and today trying to steal Maggie's limelight! I have included a couple of extra images on the preview, and yep the bottom left is the horses mouth - don't know why i just really like that image.

Amy wasn't in the best of moods unfortunately, but bless her she did ever so well. She is such a pretty little thing and those lashes are to die for! I was back at Hylands House this morning for a couple of sessions. It is a lovely venue, perfect for weddings and surrounded my a really good park, perfect for location photography.

My first session was with Spencer, a rather lively little man, especially when he has his football to hand! Daddy is convinced that Spencer will play for Liverpool one day...Spencer is still thinking about it. He spent most of the morning practicing his throw ins!

2 little boys again this afternoon - but this time at Raphael's park. The session did not star well - I arrived without a memory card! Sleep deprivation is finally taking its toll...so , after a quick dash home and back ( thankfully I don't live too far) the chasing began! I so admire both mummy and daddy trying to control 2 boys running in opposite directions is quite a feat. And no 3 is due shortly too! I had fun running around with the boys and was absolutely shattered - 3 workouts today, who needs the gym.

This morning I met Ruby with mummy and daddy to finish off her 2nd beginnings session. It was a new venue for me - Hylands House, and it was lovely. I had a good workout , as spent most of the session chasing Ruby around, she is one fast little girl! Here are some favorites from today.

Ruby's Mummy:

Hi Maria, Thanks again for a fun (but fast!) session...love the pics (esp the "conceptual shot" oo-err!!) and can't wait to see the rest :) We may have finished our Cherubs scheme but you will definitely be seeing us again as our little cherub grows up! XX

Well the bluebell season is definitely coming to an end - the bluebells are starting to feel a bit sorry for themselves now, which I guess has not been helped by the lovely, but of course dry weather.

This morning I met Esha with mummy and daddy at South Weald Country park for Esha's last beginnings session. We were greeted by the park being full of medieval tents, and the park looking rather busy! There seems to be a 3 day medieval reenactment event on, with lots of people walking around looking , well, rather medieval. Esha's response to one such an outfit was to say a rather resounding "MOO" and pointing to the person wearing it. Which was rather funny. Esha was really amusing with the little faces she pulled and I got lots of smiles. I love her little pigtails too, so cute!

In the afternoon I shot Samuel's last session in Raphael's Park. Samuel was also rather serious today, although he did warm up towards the end. He is a very active little boy and his hair is just wild! We went for a walk, checked out the squirrels, and chased around in general. Thankfully , with a few tricks, we managed to get some lovely natural and happy shots!

The weather continues to be lovely, which is great news as have managed to get almost all the bluebell sessions done, bar a few! This morning I saw Eva for her last session, and she is all grown up. Eva wasn't in a particularly smiley mood but she more than made up for it by her lovely personality. She pulls the cutest faces and is just so animated. Daddy did a fantastic job towards the end of the session and we got some lovely smiles too.Check out her preview below, she is such a pretty little girl!

This morning was quite lovely - a bit nippy , but also nice and sunny. I met Jessica and mummy at South Weald Country park , and we had a nice walk up the bluebell hill. Jessica was good as gold, and as long as we continued to pretend there is either a helicopter in the sky or a dog running around, she was quite happy. She is a little trooper, fell over so many times, but not even a hint of a cry. Check out the preview - gorgeous!

Today was back to my normal two shoots - thankfully as I was still shattered from yesterday, as well as having a pretty sleepless night. Both shoots were great and I really enjoyed them, and I was pleased to get some really great shots from both.

The first session this morning was with the lovely Elsie with mummy and daddy. She was great to photograph, and check out those eyes, gorgeous. And we had another glorious day, which is always good. I have posted an extra piccie for Elsie's preview - I love that panoramic shot. I positioned Elsie in a spot just where the light hit, and I am chuffed with the result.

Finally things are getting better - Izzy's chickenpox is healing, and the sun has come out!

It was a gorgeous day today - perfect for outdoor sessions. My first today was at South Weald Country Park with Jaiya & mummy and daddy. Jaiya was a trooper, especially as the grass was quite wet this morning, and happily toddled along and picked up flowers whilst chattering away. She is a serious little character but we also got  a few lovely smiles, so I was happy to come away with a nice mixture of images.

At last I can post - the blog has been playing up a bit and I was unable to post anything yesterday!
Ok so a few updates - the bluebells are out , but they look a bit strange this year - at least at South Weald, where normally they look fab. Maybe it's the changeable weather? Who knows, but I was a little disappointed by how sparse they looked, but then they have only been out a few days....so I will give them a chance or perhaps try to find somewhere else. So, if you live in Essex and know of an accessible bluebell wood please drop me a line...

Yesterday I shot a session with 2 gorgeous girls - Ruby and her cousin Olivia. It was Ruby's last session so we shot on location, hoping to get some bluebell shots. But it was just too damp and quite chilly (since it was quite miserable the day before) so Ruby was not very impressed at all. I got some great shots of Olivia, who seemed to really enjoy being photographed - in fact I have been told she has decided she now wants to be a model instead of a vet! We are going to have another go with Ruby on another location, hopefully on a more pleasant day.

It's not been a great day at home today. Having been to the A & E with Izzy 2 nights ago ( rash & neck pain - me, neurotic?!), doctors yesterday afternoon, and about 3 hours sleep last night, I have finally found out what she has...and it's the dreaded chickenpox . Poor thing is absolutely covered and I am getting a minute by minute blow as the spots pop up one after another. She eve has one in her eye socket - yeuch. The weather is rubbish too , so my afternoon session had to be postponed, fingers crossed we have an improvement soon as I have lots of outdoor sessions in the diary!

Anyway, I digress. This morning I met baby Edward with mummy and daddy. The whole family have amazing blue eyes, and Edward seems quite a bit older than his (almost) 6 months. He is a strong and rather active little boy, and I think he is going to be an early walker , most definitely. Edward was a little overwhelmed today so he much preferred having pictures taken when held by mummy or daddy - the good thing is we got some lovely family shots, and some cool Athena style poster shots. Check out the preview below!

Hi Maria, I love these shots and look forward to seeing the rest. Thank you so much for today. It was great fun. Thank you also for your patience - although you would not believe from these photos he was upset! Don't take it personally as I couldn't put him down for long when we got home either.

Second session today was in Raphael's park once more - another lovely sunny day. Francis has grown into a cool little man - love his hair, very boy band.  He loved running around chasing the squirrels. Thankfully I managed to get some shots in focus - it is always a challenge with little boys as they tend to be so fast!

I won't write too much - it's 3 am and I have been trying to post the previews but technology has been against me! Isabelle has come down with a severe case of Chickepox too, so things will be a bit slower over the next few days as I think she will be in need of some TLC from mum, i.e. moi!

Here is a quick sneak peek at Gracie's 2nd session - I was so excited to have her be my first little model for some cute accessories that arrived from America recently . She looks so adorable and it was lovely to see her again!

Second session today was also at Raphael's Park - nice and close, and children love the ducks! Again, great weather this afternoon , warm but overcast, just how I like it. Annalisa was as sweet as ever, this little one is always smiling and has always been one of my easiest subjects to photograph- full of charm! She came along with her big brother and sister, mummy & daddy and her godmother too - so there was lots of us fussing over her. She took it in her stride - as always.

Back to work officially today, an weather allowing it will be a busy week!  Today was lucky, what looked like potentially a gloomy day, turned out lovely and warm. My first session this morning was with twins Fraser & Tilly, and their big brother Fin. Mummy brought grandparents along too , and I don't blame her - trying to catch 3 kids all running in different directions is a  challenge! We had a little walk about and then finished off with an well deserved ice cream.
Check out those lovely baby blue eyes...and the cute shoes!

Well I got back from my break last night  - it was lovely to get away and take a breather! Just in time for a last minute newborn shoot for this lovely little newborn - Jacob, at 7 days old. This is the latest I normally recommend a newborn to be, as they become a lot more fidgety after that! Jacob is lovely little boy, and stayed content for most of the session - as long as his food was on hand, he was happy. He even smiled! I really enjoyed being back in the studio and we had a nice, relaxed shoot - mummy & daddy, hope you like the preview!

Today I had the pleasure of meeting this cute little man, who came for his Beginnings session with mummy and daddy. Riley did really well and didn't mind the camera at all. Mum & dad also did fantastic - check out that image below - this is how you "own" the mean 'n' moody look . I love that image, especially as Riley seems completely unimpressed and and is busily examining his hands instead! And look at his perfect little toes...

And with mummy's permission, one of my favorites from today. I must say I would have killed for a body like that not long after childbirth ( or at any time in fact) - doesn't she look fantastic!

I heart yellow. Seriously, it's just such a happy, cheery color. Today I shot Avni's session at South Weald Country park, and what a gorgeous day it turned out to be. Avni is such a pretty little girl, and she looked so cute in her spotty coat and then yellow top. I was really pleased with how the images turned out, and I love the one peeking though the bench!

My 2nd session today was with Enzo, the fastest runner ever. Seriously, this boy can run - and he runs everywhere. Completely fearless as well, thankfully we managed to stop him form jumping in with the ducks!  Enzo also has the big baby blue eyes, and he has grown into a handsome little man. But he knows what he likes - and keeping still is not on that list!

Today has been a big blue eyes day.

This morning I had a session with the lovely Rosie with mummy and daddy. Rosie was really chilled out and relaxed for the start of the session. But modeling being hard work, she decided it was time for sleeps when we got to the family piccies. Thankfully by then we already had a few lovely ones, so it didn't matter at all! Those blue eyes...gorgeous.

Back to the studio today! Unfortunately I was sick at the weekend so had to call off my weekend sessions. It's not usual for me, last week and this weekend again...hope it's not the onset of a big flu. But feel fine today, and had lovely easy session this morning. Olivia was smiling from the moment she opened her eyes, and was such a lovely baby. We wrapped up the session in record time, and Olivia took it all completely in her stride. Mummy did a great job, and here is a little preview -

It's been a funny couple of days. I had to call 2 sessions yesterday due to the not-so-nice sickness bug that has been going around. Thankfully by last night I felt better, so this morning I had my session with this handsome little man, Luke. Luke is soon to have a baby brother or sister, and mummy looked great with her neat little bump, despite being due very soon! It was pretty windy and cold this morning so initially Luke wasn't too keen ( I can't blame him, I can't say I enjoy the cold much), but things soon calmed down. After giving Luke my peek-a-boo routine and walking around with his hat perched on the tip of my head, he cheered up considerably and we got some great shots! Still looks like autumn though, doesn't it?
Back to feeling a bit strange this afternoon - I think I just want the sunshine to come out!

Today I had a bit of a marathon session- over 3 hours, with those 2 lovely little ones - Lili & Lukas. Lili & Lukas are twins - but unusually with different birthdays, since one of them came after midnight! I could see how proud mummy & daddy were of them, and although the twins slept ( in between feeds!)  through most of the session this gave me the chance to capture those lovely soft baby stage images.

This week has been a mixed bag of any type of photography BUT babies - very unusual for me! It's likely to remain like that until Monday when it's nothing but little ones for 6 weeks solid, so looking forward to that. And lots of location sessions too - yipeee!

So it was lovely to get back in the studio today and see Miss Lily for her second session. Lily looks like an angel - honestly - butter wouldn't melt, all ash blonde hair and bright blue eyes. Lily had a bit of a grump on today so she gave us a few little smiles but I also got a few looks that almost had me floored. Still , it was fun and here is a little glimpse of things to come!
