My second session today with baby Sam, a beautiful newborn little boy who had a head full of hair! He was quite active for his age but we did eventually get him nice and sleepy with mummy and daddy's help. Joseph, his big brother joined us for the 2nd part of the session, and he was really good, and ever so good with Samuel. Below is a usual extended newborn sneak preview, along with my favorite image from the session - I just love it!

First up today was a lovely baby girl called Lily - just over 3 months old. Mummy was keen on some newborn style shots, so we used a few props and got some beautiful soft baby shots. Lily took it all in her stride and kept her composure all the way through the session, even power napping in the middle which put her in a great mood!

I was a little worried before Frankie's session as he was 2 weeks old as well as being overdue. This usually means that the newborns are not as flexible, or sleepy, as they are in the first week. However, I needn't have worried, Frankie was a little star and after plenty of feeds from mummy, settled down very nicely and we had a lovely session.

Today I met a newborn baby boy called Charlie, who came to the studio all the way from Westminster, with his mummy and daddy. Charlie was slightly older than the average newborn I photograph so he was quite alert at the start and we got a great mixture of shots. Welcome to the world, gorgeous boy!

For my last session before my holiday, I was treated to a shoot with another lovely newborn baby girl. Evie, 8days old today, came along not only with mummy and daddy, but also with nanny and auntie. With the studio at 28 degrees, and after a 4 hour marathon session, we were all rather hot! Evie was a little star. And me.... I am now well and truly ready for my holiday!

Today I had a session with beautiful baby Noah who was just 3 days old. He came to see me all the way from Richmond. Noah was the most alert 3 day old baby I had ever met! We had a little bit of a battle of wills but with perseverance, and lots of feeds, we managed to get him nice and sleepy. I am delighted with the images from the session...he is adorable.

Jason Drury:

Thank you so much Maria. The photos are beautiful. You did a wonderful job of handling our slightly overactive and moody 3 day old boy. You made us feel calm and relaxed about the session straight away. You managed to coerce him into poses we didn't think were going to be possible prior to our arrival. Thanks for your patience and ability to read the situation to get the shots we were after.

Can't wait to see the rest of the photos now!

P.S. He's been much less frustrated since our session, if you know what we mean ;-)

Hello to all of you :) Just a quick update regarding the studio diary . I am now taking appointments for the 2nd week of September and cannot accommodate anyone before that time. We have now entered wedding season, so most of the weekends will be spent away from the studio...check out www.loveasart.co.uk for my recent wedding images.

I am also away for 2 weeks in August. As you can see from the blog, I have been rather busy (and there is more, but not every session makes the blog!), and now have a little bit of a backlog. So as always I need to put my head down and try and get everything up to date before the holiday - I am so looking forward to more than 4 hours sleep a night!

Please please remember that if you are looking to book a session, give me as much notice as possible. I have put home visits on hold for the time being, as they usually mean a day out of studio, and with Isabelle breaking up from school in a couple of days I think she really needs (as do I ) a little bit more of mummy time!

I already have newborns booked for their Welcome to the World sessions in for October and December so if you are over 6 months pregnant,  then it's never to early to secure your slot. September, October and November are by far the busiest months of the year and normally booked about 8-9 weeks in advance.

If you have emailed me or called with an enquiry, I will get back to you , but it may take a day or two - I normally shoot during the days and it's not unusual for me to come back to my desk after a shoot to 50 emails - so please bear with me.

I very much look forward to seeing you - and I leave you with this lovely image of some baby tootsies!

7 days today, Carter was the ideal age for a newborn session. After having a good feed he went to sleep pretty quickly and stayed content for the remainder of the session, and even allowed me to get that elusive sling shot. Check out this sweet little boy!

Yay, a little girl! This baby girl came to see me all the way from Northolt with her mummy and daddy. Again, because Sadie is a little bit older than the ideal recommended time for newborn photography it took a little while to settle her, but once she was asleep we got some lovely images. Mummy looked fantastic, and not at all like she had given birth 11 days previously...

Stephen was definitely more alert than my usual newborn mainly due to the fact that he was a few days over due as well as being 10 days old. Today I had a photo shoot with a beautiful 6 day old, baby boy Benjamin. As I spoke with his mummy and daddy, I was fascinated to hear about Jo and Rob's stories of their adventures around the world. Rob and Jo were very modest about their achievements which include holding the Guinness world record for the first married couple to climb the 7 summits. You can check out their website and buy a book about their adventures - Rob & Jo Gambi
Benjamin must take after his mummy and daddy as he was a very strong baby, holding his head up and looking straight at me without much effort - bearing in mind he is just 6 days old that's pretty amazing!

Ok sadly my last newborn session for this week - sweet and lovely baby Flo, 5 days old today. We had a bit of  marathon session since Florence was a very alert baby, but once mummy rocked her to sleep it all went swimmingly. I got to try some of my new props, as well shooting the usual natural images and the session was a great success!

My second session today was with a beautiful newborn baby boy, Finlay. He is a week old today. He is a very strong baby, already trying to lift his head up and push himself off my bean bag with his feet! I think his mummy and daddy will have an early walker on their hands!

I am in newborn heaven at the moment - so many lovely babies I get to photograph! Today's model was 4 day old Evie, a complete sweetie pie. Yet again, there was no accidents at all during the session ( by that I mean i didn't get weed on or anything else), an Evie was an absolute star. I put it down to the fact that the recent newborns have has very chilled out parents - this always reflects on the baby. And yes....more tomorrow!

I had a lovely start to my week today - it came in the form of 5 day old baby Teddy, a scrumptious little newborn. Daddy warned me that Ted is rather photogenic and also very chilled out, and I must say he was spot on. Teddy kept his cool all the way through and was a dream to photograph.

Look out for more newborn loveliness tomorrow...

My second sitting was the lovely Millie, from North west London. Millie has beautiful blue eyes, and a rather cute smile - which she did whenever I wasn't holding the camera! Still, we managed to capture a few of those with the help of mummy, daddy and various noise making toys. I got a chance to try out my new rhubarb colored blanket - I am loving it.

I had a fantastic Welcome to the World session today with 6 day old Henry. He was a dream to work with with - and the first newborn that didn't even wee  - that's all the way through the session! Trust me, that's unusual - and not that I mind, as it' part of pretty much every baby shoot, but this was a treat. Anyway, he did ever so well, and here are a few favorites...plus one extra as I love his little smile.

Just wanted to say a quick hello and give an update on my schedule. I am now fully booked until the end of June, and only taking bookings for July onwards. If you are looking for a newborn session ( strictly 10 days or under) by all means please do get in touch and I will see what I can do , and I am happy to recommend another photographer if I cannot accommodate you. I have a waiting list that I am happy to put you on should cancellations arise, but these are few and far between - the baby boom continues!

Please note that if you are pregnant and you would like a Welcome to the World (i.e.newborn) photography session, please do get in touch well in advance - I will book you in for 5 days following your due date. Of course the baby arrives as and when it decides to be here, but at least if you are booked in I will be able to swap you with someone else - i.e the time has been booked out of the diary.

The session fees are strictly payable on booking your session - I cannot hold appointment times unless the session fee has been paid and I have your full details.

I have recently had a lot of enquiries for newborn session where the baby is between 2 - 8 weeks. Unfortunately the likelihood of getting those lovely squishy newborn images is reduced by about 50% once you go over the 10 days, and by 75% once you go over the 2 weeks. Unless your little one is particularly sleepy ( this is the case sometimes with early babies), then I cannot promise you these types of images.

At that point you are much better off waiting until the baby is 12 weeks +. The period between 2 weeks and 12 weeks ( bar an occasional exception) is a bit of a no man's land for baby photography. At that point we have missed the beautiful newborn stage, and the baby is not quite strong enough to lift their neck or do anything much - so you will not get a great variety of images. Once your baby is over 12 weeks, they will be able to lift their head much better, maybe lift on their tummy and properly smile. We can still get some lovely natural images appropriate to that age group.

I leave with you with another image of the beautiful baby Neeyah, at 8 days old.

Take care and see you soon!

Maria :)

Today I met a lovely family from North London who brought along baby Mia for her Welcome to the World session. Normally I advise against bringing older children to newborn photography sessions, as the studio is kept hot and the sessions do go on for ages. Daniel did really well to last the few hours we were shooting, and 8 day old baby Mia was a little star.

Ok, since we are having a bit of a baby boom, I thought I would update you. At the moment I seem to have  a number of mummies due in the 2nd half of may, June & July. I would normally ask for you to contact me when the baby is born, and try to accommodate you by re-arranging the diary. However due to the sheer volume of requests, I am having to work things slightly differently. Therefore If you are pregnant, and would like a newborn session please do contact me as soon as possible, and we can book you in approximately 5 days following the due date. It might mean that we still need to reschedule you, but other mummies will be in the same situation , and at least there will be slots we can swap with If  needed.

Appointment availability in general ( not for newborns specifically) as follows -

May - full (unless you have already contacted me)
1st week of June - a few slots left, I am then away 8-16th
week commencing 24/6 - 5 appointments left

week commencing 28th of June the availability is good.

Proof turnaround times are 3 weeks at the moment, although hoping to improve that in the upcoming weeks. Order turnaround times 3-5 weeks depending on what the order is, again I am just clearing my backlog caused by the recent computer issues, and hoping to improve the lead times.

Just a quick note to photographers emailing - thank you so much for your kind emails, unfortunately at this point in time I am not offering any training or one-2-ones. Also, if I haven't replied to your email it is not because I am being rude, but simply because I don't get the time in between running the business and trying to be a mummy, a wife and a friend...I hope you understand.

As you all probably noticed my sneak previews have recently been a lot more brief - mainly due to the internet connection being on and off - and me worrying minute to minute that if the connection goes down, I would have typed lots for nothing! That's happened a few times now...so generally keeping things short and sweet!

But I am going to take my chances today - I have to tell you about this little man. He is 12 days today, so slightly older than I prefer newborns to be at their first session, but he did ever so well. He really made me chuckle, as I am sure he knew exactly what was going on. The shot on his tummy was one of the first shots I took, and normally newborns will only lay like this when asleep. Teddy just sort of lifted his head, looked at me and then held that pose for a full 3 minutes or so. Then the one on the blue background - where I was trying to do the curled up newborn shot - again, he just lifted up, looked over as if to say " what do you expect me to do now?" . Normal newborn behavior ( i.e sweetly asleep) resumed after a good feed!

It's funny how all the newborns are so different. One thing I will say is a definite - if the parents are relaxed and chilled out , so are the babies. So, if you are looking to book a newborn photography session with me - remember no fussing is allowed, and your job is lay back on the sofa, with a nice latte or a cup of tea! I have plenty of experience photographing newborns so just trust me and enjoy the session, it's nice watch your new addition simply being cute!

This morning I met the lovely Isabella, who is nearly 7 weeks old. She traveled all the way from South Hampstead to have some newborn style pictures taken. However, as she is well past the squidgy newborn stage and a very active baby, the curled up newborn shots didn't quite work! Still, we still got some lovely images appropriate to her age group - I love the photo over daddy's shoulder. Here are a few favorites from the session.

Today I photographed Mabel, a gorgeous little poppet, just 6 days old. Mable is the little sister of Delilah, one of my favorite models who had already completed her Beginnings scheme. As you all know newborn photography is most definitely my favorite subject, so I had a great time photographing the new addition. Mabel was very chilled out through the whole experience, and we have some gorgeous photos for mummy and daddy to choose from.

This afternoon I had a really fun pregnancy session. Leonie came in with her mum and sister to get her bump photographed, but as both Leonie & Abigail are pregnant at the same time (how cool is that?) they also had some pictures together, and of course some with mum. Leonie was an amazing model, and the camera absolutely loved her. I love the picture of the girls together - don't they all look great ? Really looking forward to the newborn session!

After a busy week of doing some commercial work, album design, E sessions and lots of other things I was back in the studio today - and have another busy week next week!

This morning I had a session with the lovely Ethan with mummy and daddy. He did really well although he did make us work a little - Ethan did a great trick of smiling, then frowning as soon as the camera was on him! It's definitely not unusual, so mummy set about getting those smiles whilst I waited to catch those lovely moments. Here are a couple of favorites from the session -

Today's session was with a newborn baby girl - sweet little Sophia, just 7 days old. Sophia came along with mummy, and my brief was to get the more unusual shots using lots of hats and baskets. Sophia was as good as gold and quite happy to play model providing she was regularly topped up with lots of milk!

My second session today was with a beautiful baby girl, who is almost 6 weeks old. Sasha came to see me all the way from Hampstead. Amazingly, it was much like a newborn session and I was able to get those lovely sleepy shots, as well as few unexpected bonus ones. Sasha is William's ( photographed a couple of weeks ago) little friend and just like him she was a little smiler! She is dinky for her age, and was very sleepy today which really helped achieve those newborn like images.

I had 3 little rascals in my studio today - Austin & Charles (the cheeky little twins), and the new addition to the family, the lovely baby Oliver. The older boys had great fun jumping on the various studio settees and chairs. In the meantime, I was trying to work with Oliver to recreate some of those lovely newborn shots, even though he is already 4 weeks. I just love that image of the boys as a contrast to Oliver blissfully asleep...

Today I popped into Bababoom, a fab new shop opening this Saturday, in Loughton high Street. I was greeted by the lovely Becky holding a screwdriver, beavering away and trying to get everything sorted for the big launch. I designed the launch flyers and they have been distributed in several places, but if you haven't got yours yet , here are the details.  So if you get a moment on Saturday, please drop in to see the Bababoom team and admire their lovely new shop & goodies. I will have some of my images displayed on their walls, can't wait to see them up! The website is www.bababoom.co.uk .

Bababoom offers a range of services, from Independent Midwifery, Health Visiting, Alternative Therapies to a shop packed with lovely goodies and gifts every pregnant woman would love.

Wow, this is a seriously stunning child, and appears very photogenic. The stunning eyes are really set off well by her natural complextion, and the lighting of the set help to show this clearly. The simple bowl and shawl do well to show the child as the star of the photo, and not detract from the child's beauty, and the shot is well framed. Again WOW, i feel that this is the best phtographic set on this blog site!

This morning I had a great newborn session with a gorgeous newborn baby boy, who came to see me all the way from Maida Vale.  William is just 6 days old , and has the most amazing head of hair. He was a little more active than the average newborn, but with some patience and lots of top ups from mummy, we got some amazing shots! I just love newborn photography, I could do it all day...to top it off William did quite a few "smiles", how cool is that?

Yay, back out to the great outdoors! As you all know I love shooting babies and newborns. But as I have many of my babies grow into walking talking little people, it only seems appropriate that I continue to document their progress. I do love shooting outdoors, it certainly blows away the cobwebs and gives me a little variety. Today, my first shoot was with Edward, who came back for his last Beginnings session. We popped down to the local park for a walk, and although it was rather chilly Edward seemed to take it all in his stride!

Today's session was with baby Henry who came along with mummy and daddy for his first Beginnings shoot. Henry has really cool hair and is a lovely boy, although he wasn't feeling his best today , bless him. My first day back at the studio today, yipee ! I am still getting my head together after what was rather busy weekend at the Baby Show. I was displaying mainly newborn photography and met lots of mummies and daddies-to-be. Thankfully my teeth are finally healing and today was my first relatively pain free day, which was fantastic after spending the best part of the last month with toothache. This week is all about catching up as am behind with both proofs and orders after the ordeals of the last month! I also have 250 + emails to send out after the show...

Once I have caught up with everything urgent, I will be blogging details of some great companies I met at the show, so you can visit their websites and get some goodies!

Hello to all of you! Yet again I disappeared for a week or so, with very good reason...As some of you know I had some dental implants done recently. Unfortunately I got an infection and pretty much the last 2 and a half weeks has been a time of being in ever increasing agony. This culminated in me flying out for some emergency surgery last weekend. On return, and a day late,  I was off straight into a very intense documentary photography workshop in Brighton. I am now back at home, rather drained, but happy to be in less pain and hoping all will be ok when my stitches come out on Monday...fingers crossed! I will be answering all my emails over the weekend, I have over 200 to go through so thank you so much for your patience. The website relaunch also got delayed, but it will most definitely be up and running by next Friday as I am attending the Baby Show at Excel as an exhibitor. I have a couple of spare tickets so if you would like those please email me - first come , first served.
I am now taking bookings for March so please drop me a line if you would like to book a photo session. Location photography sessions start in March, as the weather hopefully turns and the daffodils start coming out. Here is a piccie of the gorgeous Avni in daffodils from last year! I was back in the studio today, so baby Lulu's sneak preview is next...

This morning I had the pleasure of meeting Phoebe, a lovely baby girl. I had photographed her mummy's and daddy's wedding last year, and it was great to catch up and meet the new addition to the family.

As a lot of you know newborn photography is one of my favorite genres. So I was really pleased to hear that Ed had a baby brother and he was coming for  a newborn photography session. Jackson is adorable, and titchy, in fact he came a couple of weeks early, taking mummy and daddy by complete surprise! I was very proud of Ed, whom I already photographed twice, he did fantastically well, he was so chilled out!  We got some great images of the boys together, which is really hard to do in a newborn photography session, especially with this age group.

Today I met a lovely little newborn called Harriette. Harriette is 3 weeks old, so the newborn poses were not quite possible but we still got a great selection of some lovely photos, and plenty that will make you go aaahhhh! She was an absolute star, and here is a sneak peek - isn't that one cool sofa?
